MAYDAY! MAYDAY!

We decided to spend our MayDay at the annual Mayday parade in Minneapolis. First Maura, Aunt Kerry and I carved out little piece of sidewalk for optimal viewing.

Kerry was dressed in her best hippie festival attire (note her shoes are derived from hemp)

And Maura, hers

And then the parade begins...

This was a great caribbean display, complete with sparkly butterflies

Then came the tribute to pork-barrel spending (all puppeteers are walking on stilts)

Then dung beetles and lots and lots of dung (not sure of the significance of so much dung)

And spiders
And even a butterfly who tried to land right on our heads

We then got to see my favorite of the day...
a huge bear who was as detailed as any of the puppets of the day.
And followed by some good atheist action.

Garden of Eat'n

This is the beginning of Maura's summer garden

We had to build a wire fence to keep the bunnies, squirrels, and MAHLEY out.
We'll see how this works.

Maura planted 6 bulbs today....4 tiger lilies and 2 daffodils. She checked on them 4 or 5 times throughout the afternoon,
each time evaluating whether they had started to grow.
